Rev. Dr.
Johnny Myles Wilson, Jr.
Johnny Myles Wilson is the newly
elected Pastor at Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Springfield, MA.
He comes from the Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in Utica, NY,
where he served for four years. He was chaplain and director
of religious affairs at Keuka College in Keuka Park, NY for seven
years.
He earned his Bachelor’s degree from
the University of Louisiana at Monroe, his Masters of Divinity from
Graduate Theological Union, American Baptist Seminary of the West,
Berkeley, CA and his Ph.D. from Aspen Theological Seminary in
Aurora, CO. He is currently a doctor of ministry student at
United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH.
A native of Monroe, Louisiana, Rev. Wilson
grew up in Rochester, NY. He became an American Baptist
clergy in 1981 and was ordained in 1983 at the Allen Temple Baptist
Church, Oakland, CA under the pastoral
leadership of Dr. James Alfred Smith, Sr., who was selected by
Ebony as one of
the 15 top African American preachers in America.
Rev. Wilson has a history of civic
involvement and has served on many boards and community groups.
He served as an advocate for the Southern Law Center
addressing the issues of racism and injustices of people. In
2002, his congregation was awarded a $25,000 grant from the U.S.
Department of Education to develop a program for upward career
opportunities. Also in 2002, he was honored by the City of
Utica for his leadership, dedication and perseverance in the
“Ladder to the Future” project and his sincere
commitment to the community.
Rev. Wilson believes in a mission to empower
the local Church congregation with a strategy and plan of action to
increase spiritual awareness. His role in Springfield is to strive
for a practical theology on issues impacting our youth, senior
citizens and spiritual awareness.n
