Selected Words and Poems
By Helen
Caulton-Harris
Elizabeth Howard Caulton, my mother,
was diagnosed with Leukemia in 1991 and came to live with me the last year of
her life. I watched as she struggled
with the pain of that devastating disease.
After her death, when we went to the funeral home to view her body, I
felt she was at peace and her pain was over.
That is when I wrote “DEAR MOTHER.”
As the years have passed, I realized that while her suffering had ended,
ours as a family was beginning.
DEAR MOTHER
A peaceful
rest is yours today
Pain and
suffering are gone away
On your
face there is a glow instead
A crown of
gold adorns your head
God has
chosen to set you free
From
earthly bonds and misery
Your loving
smile and tender touch
Will be
missed by those who loved you very much
Your warmth
and caring can be replaced by no other
We will always love and miss you Dear Mother.
