Indulge
in a Little Self- Renewal
By Tracy Whitley
Women are
wise, strong, intelligent and often the primary decision makers about most
things in the home, including health care. However, we do not always take care
of ourselves. With so many changes in
the world and “to do” lists a mile
long, it is important for us to think of ourselves, take care of ourselves and
surround ourselves with positive sights, sounds and people. Make this a year of
new beginnings by taking the time to enjoy life and relinquish some of the
things that consume you. It is time to find the harmony, balance and healing
you deserve in your life. Let’s indulge in a little self- renewal this year!
If you are like most women, your family,
friends and career take precedence and make it increasingly difficult to find
time for yourself. We expect so much more from ourselves than we can
realistically deliver. We look in the mirror and expect to see “Super Woman”
looking back. Well, this syndrome has plagued women for years and it’s time to
let go of this ideal and “get real.”
So, how do you take care of yourself and
make time for yourself while being a provider, partner, caregiver and friend?
You can start by setting parameters and prioritizing. Honor yourself and your
spirit by taking the time you need to improve your life. Spirit of Women at
Baystate Health System can help you do that, as we offer many opportunities for
you to nurture your spirit, find inspiration and connect with others who are
doing the same.
Spirit of Women at Baystate Health System
is a free health and wellness program educating and empowering women to take
control of our own health. Spirit of Women is a partner in health to
thousands of women in the community and this year we hope to help you embrace
things that are healthy for your body, that educate your mind and that
rejuvenate your spirit.
This year, find out what inspires you. Identifying
that which inspires you to be better, healthier and more fulfilled can help you
make positive changes. Seek out and pursue things you are passionate about.
Look to your family and friends for support and don’t be afraid to make new
friends by networking.
During a recent Spirit of Women
conference, nationally known speaker, Barbara Sher, said, “Networking is a
sensational way to get to know the best people in town, and a warm and
stimulating way to meet some first-class people. Never underestimate the
difference it can make in your life to meet someone who can hand you a piece to
your puzzle. You can find something that changes your life in this best and
oldest way of socializing.”
Stay true to your spirit and allow others
to help you on your journey. With support from your family, friends, coaches,
counselors and health care providers, you can have a better, healthier, and
more fulfilled life. Spirit of Women encourages women to make positive changes
by providing tools to support women physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Start by setting goals. Then network, network, network! Surround yourself with
a network of people who encourage you and who are eager to help you achieve
your goals!
