ST. JOHN’S DONATES HOLIDAY BASKETS

By Debbie McCain Wesley

St. John’s Congregational Church is truly in the blessing business.  Three of the Church’s numerous ministries worked together to spread the real meaning of Christmas this past December, as they obediently practiced what they preach.

The old but familiar saying, “It’s better to give than to receive,” was a motivating factor in this outreach effort.  In the spirit of service, the Seasoned Saints, Children’s Church and the Mighty Men of God ministries collaborated and consciously spread messages of hope, love, faith, goodness and kindness, which all symbolize the birth and life of Jesus Christ.

Last year, St. John’s blessed more than 150 families with Holiday baskets filled with non-perishable food items, blankets, general household goods, toys, a turkey and all the fixings, as well as a tape of the Reverend Dr. Howard-John Wesley dynamically delivering the word of God. Through this thoughtful effort, families are being fed both physically and spiritually.

The Church is on a mission to “Build the Kingdom of God in the Congregation and Community,” and is doing so through one act of kindness after another.  It is in the spirit of giving that one deeply feels the sincerity of one’s heart. And, needless to say, St. John’s is truly touched several hearts this past holiday season.  The Church is located at 643 Union Street, Springfield and its worship services are Sundays at 7:30 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.  The Rev. Dr. Howard-John Wesley is the Senior Pastor.  n
