As
part of the college’s efforts to contribute to Springfield’s revitalization,
American International College has started a new program offering a $10,000
scholarship to any qualified student living in Bay Area neighborhood. The
scholarship will be renewable for four years.
Roland E. Holstead, vice president for
Institutional Advancement at AIC, said the new program is just one of many
community initiatives the college has taken. “By encouraging home ownership and
offering scholarships to qualified residents, we feel this will go a long way
in helping to revitalize the city of Springfield.:.”
The College will offer scholarships of
$10,000 to students whose families own homes and reside in the Bay Area Census
Tract, The Bay Area Neighborhood as defined by the By-Laws of the Bay Area
Neighborhood Council and the United States Bureau of the Census, is bounded by
the railroad tracts east of Mason Square; State Street and Bay Street to
Roosevelt and Bay Street.
Applicants must be able to meet the
admission's criteria of the College, complete a Financial Aid Form, and intend
to attend as full time day students.
Holstead said by offering scholarships to
area students, AIC is making college possible to those who might not normally
be able to afford a private college education. “With $10,000 from AIC and
need-based state and federal funding, neighborhood students, living at home
could attend the College virtually tuition-free.”
