PASS ON THE PAST
Remember
when we kids wore Keds,
And
liquor people worried about the feds.
Remember
when the man delivered ice,
And
to say “craps” or “dice wasn’t nice.
Remember
when the milkman came to call,
And
his horse was cute and not in a stall.
Remember
when Mom would darn your socks,
And
the doors at home had no locks.
Remember
when popcorn smelled so grand,
And
was delivered from a cart and not a stand.
Remember
when the banks all closed at three,
And a
big ten cents was the movie fee.
Remember
when two cents bought the news,
And
six bits got a bottle of booze.
Remember
when pay came from WPA,
And
with any neighbor’s kid you could play.
Remember
when you were far from old,
And
the winters didn’t seem so cold.
Remember the old days and what they
lacked,
And your eyes sparkle but you can’t go back!
