Dear Queen Tiye:
Every year around this time people
start professing about their New Year’s Resolutions and weeks after the New
Year they are usually back to their old ways. I have to admit that I,
too, am also guilty of claiming to have resolutions and not sticking to
them. Where does all the hype come from? Any suggestions on how
to keep resolutions?
Thanks,
Irresolute about Resolutions
Dear Irresolute:
I'm not sure who started "New
Year’s Resolutions," but I believe that they probably derived from
people deciding to set goals or make changes for themselves at the start of the
New Year. One may have thought, when better to improve or make a change
than the beginning of a new year.
One suggestion on how to follow
through on your resolutions is to set realistic ones and establish
accomplishable goals. Start small and don't try and change or improve
everything all at once. Most importantly don't wait until New Year’s Day
to make "Resolutions." Try
them any day of the year and don’t give up if you slip. Just try again!!!
