The Highlander Folk School

Today’s Black History Month feature isn’t a person. It is an institution-The Highlander Folk School. Ella Baker and Septima Clark taught here for years. This school served as the meeting place for the people that would ultimately form the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, SNCC.

It’s important that we have schools like this to teach the community how to organize and be civically engaged.
