STCC again will offer a beer brewing course that teaches the science and technology of becoming a professional brewer. The class starts Nov. 3.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. –  Springfield Technical Community College on Nov. 3 will offer a workforce development training course to teach the science and technology of becoming a professional brewer.

The 108-hour Professional Brewing Certificate Program blends online course work with hands-on lab work at local breweries. The course runs for 11 weeks starting Nov. 3. Spaces are still available.

Seventy-five percent of the course work is completed online, which means the program offers flexibility for students who might live far from the STCC campus. Students must participate in field work in or around Springfield every fourth Saturday.

Course topics include the brewing process, quality control, beer styles, ingredients, recipe creation, safety, sanitation, bottling and business success. The class will focus on brewing beer in smaller quantities.

Students must be at least 21 years of age at the start of the course and will have earned a High School Diploma or equivalence.

Anyone interested can enroll online at www.stcc.edu/brewcourse or in person at STCC, Building 16, Room 146. Call (413) 755-4225 if you have any questions
